Gusii parents' character delays youth economic development in the region
The youth from gusii region are so hardworking and aggressive. They are known to be the second most aggressive youth in terms of how they struggle to improve their lives following the Kikuyu tribe in Kenya.
However gusii youths are not only hindered by the failing economy of the country but also their parents.
It is ironical to hear Kisii parents say they want the region to develop while they fight the system from within. While in other regions the parents empower their children economically since childhood and some in their teenage; a Kisii parent will only want to empower their children academically.
The belief that academics is directly related to wealth is a common misconception held by most parents. I do not underestimate the importance of education nor do I take it to be insignificant and less important. The specifics here is that education alone will take the youth in the region no step a head economically.Education should come hand in hand with economic empowerment.
Research indicates that parents from the lift valley region and central Kenya are ready to introduce their children to wealth at early age while in school and give the children directions on how to use the given foundation to wealth to ensure it gives desired outcome which is: more wealth.
Parents from the lift valley for example those owning cattle give even one cow to their son and tell the son not to sell it but let it reproduce..While in campus for example a student from the lift valley owns more than 20 cows and can pay his school fees..but still the parents support them. The second example is a Kikuyu which is mostly a business community. Parents are ready to orient their children into business at the age of 18 and even less..This is the reason as to why most young richest people in Kenya come from the two regions.
What parents should be told and which I repeatedly say : education should come together with economic empowerment. The Luo for example are the most educated community in Kenya but the poorest. It is not that some communities in Kenya are economically advantaged but their lifestyles and beliefs keep them where they are ranked economically.
POINTS HOLDING KISII BACK IN DEVELOPMENT AS CAUSED BY PARENTS.
In Kisii; parents are selfish even to their own children. It is in Kisii where a 30yr old man is still under the parents.
If at the age of event 25 in kisii the parents still consider you irresponsible and who canton be given economic empowerment.
For example if you request your parent to show you some part of land to plant trees and cut them after 5 years; living the piece of land still in his ownership; the parent may take you to elders on the grounds demanding for land which is not true..
It is in Kisii if you own a property your parents count it theirs and can sell it anyhow without your consent..
It is in Kisii where parents want supremacy by keeping to themselves what they got from parents also yet not using it productively due to their old age.
