moi university hospital |
It is just a house. A building with less than two medical attendants oftenly. It is moi university hospital according to' them' but according to you who have tasted the quality of the services in the so called hospital will have a different title for it. Why are many students not going to the health center even when they get sick but choose to go for medical attention in the Kesses dispensary?
This is not about the deteriorating hygienic conditions in the university's residential halls and how the ignorant students could point fingers on the Security and Accommodation Director about this. This is not about the first aid kits, neither is it about the wretched kaput old dustbins. This is serious business, to speak gallantly for the sake of the health of a comrade.
The Dispensary. You can attest that the ksh 1500 stipulated in the medical fee column of my fee structure does not worth the medical quality accordance in the dispensary. This does not mean that everyone should get sick . It should be known why the few individuals with health implications cannot be accorded requisite medical attention they deserve in the hospital.
Leave alone that, the dispensary standards cannot befit the stature of a university, a place that is bound to serve over 10,000 heads simply has no difference from a local clinic ,Where you get painkillers and antibiotics . Are all the students who get sick diagnosed on the same disease? If not so why is it that everybody who goes to the hospital almost receives the same prescription? Is amoxil meant to cure every disease? At times it runs short of drugs, and students are sent to the chemists with a list of drugs.
There is a very big gap left between the day and the night shifts. The day shift ends at 5pm and the night shift should start immediately because none plans on when to get sick. This means that the hospital should have medical officers at all time. This is not the case at the hospital the day shift ends at 5PM and the night shift commences at a no fixed time . If you get sick and you go to the hospital immediately after 5pm , then you should undergo the pain waiting for another shift which sometime comes in as late as 8 pm. The excuse is alway on the issues of transport means .The medical attendants always say they missed a vehicle to have them arrive faster in the hospital.
The pharmacist never exists for the night shift. You are told to wait till the following day to come for medicine. This means that at the night shift one can mostly receive prescription but come for treatment the following day.
The greatest irony and a tragedy is that even if you are very sick , you have to check for your medical file which is among several other students files before you get medical attention: an act that can take a sick patient more than an hour searching for his file.
The question is who will change the situation and until when will students wait?
